11/30/2005 Gone the way of the BuffaloUsually means something is no more. Well Buffalo couldn't have more aptly named their company. For the products they produce are rubbish. Enter the 160GB Buffalo External HD. Purchased at Fry's about six months ago. Aluminum case, sleek design, inexpensive ($80). About a month later it broke. Aluminum mated to plastic with chinsy screws don't make for a very structurally sound construction.
So I put up with the bangs and rattles and the laughing at by coworkers for another few months. Until enough was finally enough. After one more trip to Fry's I got what I should've purchased originally: a run of the mill plastic hard drive enclosure.
People, if you want an external HD thats worth a crap, then build it yourselves. It ain't hard. And its cheaper in the long run too.
For those of you who want a demonstration of the magesty that is Buffalo Technology Inc., please stop by my cube.
Fin 11/29/2005 Three six zeroI was at the 360 launch. So was Best Buy. They had a little shop set up in the corner so that the attendees could buy the 360 at retail price instead of that bundled shit you see all over for $700-$1000. They let me do it too. So I bought one. This shouldn't come as a suprise to any of you. At least I hope not. I mean, I've been working pretty intimately with this system for the last six months or so... it just makes sense.
Okay so maybe it doesn't make sense, but I bought it anyway.
Wayne Campbell put it best: "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hurl."
Just make sure you have an HDTV before you buy it otherwise it won't be worth it. Because then you'll have to buy one. Like we did. Its a conspiracy I tell you. Ah well, we'd have to get one eventually right? It'll be the new standard effective Dec 31, 2006. Everyone thank government... thanks government...
Meh.
Fin 11/26/2005 CAMERA!I finally bought a digital camera. Which means a lot of things.
-I can take pictures of stuff.
-I can stop using my lame ass camera phone.
-I can share those pictures with you guys.
Sweet. I've also been threatening to post a picture a day for 365 days. Kinda like a photo journal of my year. So effective 1/1/2006 I'll start. Until then I'll be getting used to this little piece of crazy technology.
Fin 11/15/2005 F117aWe heard the roar of a jet engine and HAD to go outside to check it out. We saw a spec of a retreating jet (which had suddenly grown remarkably quiet) with the profile of a sparrow. We watch the spec for awhile track along the horizon and then noticed it growing larger. It was coming towards us. It approached us silently.. a black triangle about 1000ft off the ground. Then in one deft move it banked, betraying it's profile. The F117a stealth fighter. Only until it was immediately over us, sideways, with its windows glinting in the sun, did we finally hear it.
Here's some pics too. 11/12/2005 Project OliviaI am at an undisclosed location in the mojave desert.
The terrain is very much like that of eastern washington.. but at the same time its so different. Mornings are crisp, the air almost electric. Days are hot and dry. When the sun goes down it cools quickly.... and the stars. Oh my God the stars. So brilliant. Mars and Venus (we're pretty sure) are out and intensely bright.
I can't wait to share the pictures with you guys. Even though they were taken with the POS camera phone they're still interesting. Maybe in a week.
Fin 11/2/2005 Blue balls.A mystery that's plagued mankind since the dawn of time: BLUEBALLS. Where do they come from? Now I know and I must share with you all.
